Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is most widely known as a form of exercise that involves stretching and posing, but yoga is much more than that – it is a way of balancing the mind and body through exercise, breathing, and meditation.   Some of the many benefits of yoga are listed below:

Increased Flexibility   The stretching and breathing techniques associated with yoga increase an individual’s flexibility by not only stretching the muscles but also the joints.   Increased flexibility leads to less injuries during other forms of exercise and helps the body recover from physical stress.

Increased Awareness    Yoga also has the benefit of working as an internal masseuse.   Yoga massages all of the internal organs and glands which helps detoxify the body and promotes increased awareness of the internal workings of the body.   It has been noted that people who practice yoga regularly find it easier to detect oncoming infections and can then take preventative measures.

Decreased Stress    The ultimate goal of yoga is to bring balance to the body and mind through meditation.   Meditation does not mean wiping the mind clean but rather allowing the mind to focus on its activities without overloading.   When the mind works better and faster the amount of stress associated with daily living can be relieved.
