Boxing suggestions for the new boxer
Boxing is a time honored sport.
While most people will never box
professionally they can still reap the health and safety benefits of
boxing.
Some tips that new boxers might
want to consider are listed below:
Find a
trainer
:
Boxing is a great
workout but it is also a means of self-defense and thus it is dangerous to
begin a boxing regiment without a trainer.
Finding the right trainer can be difficult so it should not be
rushed.
It is highly preferable to
find a
trainer
that is insured, certified by a boxing association, and most
importantly highly skilled.
Get the
right equipment
:
Basic
boxing equipment includes a set of hand wraps, a roll of adhesive sports tape,
and a set of boxing gloves.
It is also
recommended to dress in light weight, loose fitting, comfortable clothing for
boxing sessions and wear smooth soled shoes such as boxing or wrestling
shoes.
Individual facilities and
trainers will have specific recommendations.
Start
training:
In addition to
boxing techniques, training for boxing includes running, jump roping, and
lifting weights.
Running increases the
body’s endurance.
Jump roping improves
agility and weight lifting builds and strengthens the body’s muscles.
A person interested in boxing can begin
training their body using these exercises prior to beginning an actual boxing
training regimen.
