control the muscles.
First created
during World War 1 by Joseph Pilates for soldiers returning from war, Pilates
now has millions of people who practice this regimen daily and thousands of
instructors who teach it.
The Pilates
program is designed to pay close attention to the postural muscles which help
to support the spine.
By focusing on your breathing as well as your spinal alignment
during exercise, Pilates training will help to strengthen deep torso
muscles.
The main focus of Pilates is to
fuse together the mind and body so that the body will be able to move with balance
and harmony.
Other principals of Pilates
is using proper breathing techniques to help oxygenate the body and to focus on
the center muscles of the body including the abdomen, hips and buttocks.
The theory is that all energy begins at the center and flows out
towards the limbs.
Concentration and
control are also important as intense focus is needed to perform the small
movements that aim to tone up the body.
All movement during Pilates Is considered essential and the entire
program must be done from start to finish to achieve its intended purpose.
